On March 22, 2025, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its headquarters in New Delhi with outstanding success. The election of the Chairman and Governing Council members was a major event highlight. Due process was followed, and Shri Ashok Singh Thakur was chosen to serve as chairman for a three-year term.
India’s leading heritage conservation organisation, INTACH, was founded on January 27, 1984, with the goal of conserving and revitalising the nation’s natural, cultural, and intangible heritage. Under the Societies Registration Act (1860), it functions as a national registered society and is essential in promoting respect and understanding of India’s rich cultural legacy.
As a cultural bank, INTACH provides funding and technical know-how for creative cultural projects and heritage preservation. The INTACH Charter, its guiding text, was approved in 2004 to provide comprehensive knowledge of tangible, intangible, natural, and cultural heritage and is currently being revised to include interdisciplinary approaches to heritage conservation.
Under the leadership of Shri Ashok Singh Thakur, INTACH is well-positioned to carry out its objective of preserving India’s rich history while adjusting to the new difficulties in heritage preservation.
