Rushikonda Beach to Regain Blue Tag Certification: Kandula Durgesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced its decision to restore the Blue tag certification for Rushikonda Beach in Visakhapatnam, which was previously revoked. Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography, Kandula Durgesh, made the announcement in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reviving the beach’s international recognition and promoting eco-friendly tourism.

The Bluetag certification, a globally recognized eco-label, was removed from Rushikonda Beach due to administrative lapses and failure to meet environmental standards. Minister Kandula Durgesh assured that the government has taken corrective measures and is actively working to regain the certification by adhering to stringent international guidelines.

To meet the requirements for Bluetag certification, the government has planned several initiatives, including:

✅ Improved Waste Management: Installation of advanced garbage disposal units, regular beach cleaning drives, and anti-pollution measures to maintain cleanliness.
✅ Enhanced Safety Measures: Deployment of trained lifeguards, installation of safety signage, and establishment of emergency response services.
✅ Infrastructure Development: Construction of eco-friendly pathways, seating areas, washrooms, and other visitor-friendly facilities.
✅ Environmental Conservation Efforts: Protection of coastal biodiversity, reduction of plastic waste, and preservation of sand dunes.

Minister Kandula Durgesh emphasized that environmental sustainability remains a priority, and the government will collaborate with international tourism organizations and environmental experts to ensure the long-term maintenance of Bluetag standards.

Strict Monitoring and Compliance

A special monitoring committee will be established to oversee the implementation of environmental and safety measures required for Bluetag certification. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department will also conduct regular inspections to ensure continuous compliance with international standards.

A Major Boost for Andhra Pradesh’s Coastal Tourism

The restoration of Bluetag status is expected to boost Rushikonda Beach’s appeal among both domestic and international tourists, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leading coastal tourism destination.

Minister Kandula Durgesh reaffirmed that the government is committed to developing Rushikonda Beach into a world-class, environmentally sustainable tourist attraction while ensuring the economic and ecological well-being of the region.
