The First Grand Diwali Celebration In Taiwan (2020)

Taiwan Shakti India Dance Group (夏卡緹融合印度舞團) lead by Taiwanese Indian Dance Master, Miss Huang Meiyu (Meiyushakti) (黃美瑜) brought in the fervour of Diwali, the Indian festival of lights to Taiwan well in advance.  

The Group gave a scintillating performance at ICST NCTU, Taiwan on November 7. They used three colour wings to symbolise the Indian flag and performed to popular Indian songs incorporating Belly dance, Bhangra, Bengali and Western fusion.

The Group has taken part in many domestic cultural carnivals, travel exhibitions, and India Art festivals, and it has been promoting Indian culture in Taiwan. They often win the Indian dance competition in Taiwan. Some of their popular dance styles include Bollywood, Odissi, Kathak, Rajasthani and Middle Eastern Belly dance.

Meiyu Huang, the head of the Shakti Indian Dance Group is also IDAT chairperson of the Taiwan India Art and Dance Association, Supervisor of New China Zhonghua Art Exchange Promotion Association and guest lecturer at the Sanskrit Department of Drama, National Sun Yat-sen University. She has presented Classical Odissi dance at the THC Auditorium, New Delhi in 2010. She has a teaching experience of over 15 years. The master has expertise in Bollywood Indian Dance, Classical Odissi, Kathak, Indian traditional Rajasthani dance, Middle Eastern belly dance and many more. Meiyu Huang wants Taiwanese to know more about Indian art and culture.
