Sahitya Akademi’s Festival of Letters 2025

The “Festival of Letters 2025” will be organised by Sahitya Akademi.From March 7 to March 12, 2025, Sahitya Akademi, India’s leading literary school under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will hold its yearly Festival of Letters at Rabindra Bhavan in New Delhi.
The event will be inaugurated by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Government of India. This year’s Samvatsar Lecture will be given by renowned writer and scholar Sri Upamanyu Chatterjee, while the keynote guest of the award ceremony will be renowned English playwright Sri Mahesh Dattani, who will also present the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages.With about 700 authors from all over the nation representing more than 50 languages participating in the festival over the course of more than 100 sessions, it is Asia’s largest literary festival. The festival’s theme is Indian Literary Traditions, and over the final three days, a National Seminar with distinguished writers and intellectuals will be held on the subject.Young writers, women writers, Dalit writers, writers from the Northeast, tribal writers and poets, LGBTQ writers and poets, as well as numerous distinguished authors, translators, publishers, poets, and notable figures from various fields, will all be featured at the festival. Since 1985, the Festival of Letters has been India’s most inclusive literature festival.
On the last day of the festival, a children’s event called Spin A Tale will be held for the entire day. Distinguished writers, poets, translators, publishers, and critics will present, read, and discuss a variety of topics during the festival. Prominent performers such as Rakesh Chaurasia (flute recital), Nalini Joshi (Hindustani vocal), Fouzia Dastango, and Ritesh Yadav (Dastan-e-Mahabharata) will present cultural events on three evenings.
